The University Endowment Lands (UEL) is an unincorporated community located between the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia (UBC), and adjacent to Pacific Spirit Regional Park and Musqueam First Nation lands.
The community includes four distinct areas: Area A, Area B, Area C, and Area D, which includes the Village. Areas A, B, and C are single family residential areas. Area D is the commercial centre and contains multi-family residential units. Area D has seen the most growth over the last ten years.
While there is no mayor and council, community members are represented on two key groups that were established in the UEL Official Community Plan to provide advice to the Manager, who is directly appointed by the Province of British Columbia through the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the UEL.
As a long-established neighbourhood, the UEL is known locally as University Hill or simply U Hill. For decades, U Hill’s population hovered at about 2,000; following 15 years of rapid growth, this number now stands at 4,150. With the development of Block F, a 21-acre forested site along University Blvd, U Hill’s population is expected to almost double over the coming 10 years.
